Community groups win library deal

Five community groups in Buckinghamshire have been given the go-ahead to take over the running of county council-owned libraries earmarked for closure.

The council believes this could lead the way for many other local authorities to hand responsibilities down to the community. No financial subsidy will be handed down from the council, but support and training will be provided. The community libraries, granted permission after successful business plans were submitted, will be complimentary to the council's own ‘supermobile' library.
