Concerns raised on the state of Birmingham City Council's finances following an annual audit by accountancy firm, Grant Thornton.

Concern has risen over the state of Birmingham City Council's finances following an annual audit of the authority by accountancy firm, Grant Thornton.

Although the auditors said the local authority had improved since last year, and had to deal with 'difficult legacy issues', it slammed the quality control of elements of the accounting stating: 'a further step change is needed in the quality and time-liness of the council's accounts'.
