Confusion surrounds the current work status of Southend-on-Sea City Council's chief executive, with reports that he has left the council after less than a year in the job.

Local media has been told that Rob Polkinghorne and director of legal services Giles Gilbert are ‘on leave' and the council has been unable to confirm when they will return.
