The endless parade of local leaders on pilgrimage to London to secure benefits for their areas symbolises what needs to change in the topsy-turvy nature of central-local relations, argues Localis chief executive Jonathan Werran.

During the protracted and rather demeaning saga of the tortuous Brexit process, it has been common to hear the Government team lament intolerably lowered levels of respect and decency of treatment in the corridors of Brussels negotiators.

For many in local government, it would have required a heart of stone not to inwardly rejoice at the sight of Whitehall and Westminster's finest getting a taste of their own Night Nurse.
