Core Cities is expected to increase pressure on the Local Government Association (LGA) after a mayor attacked Smith Square's ‘mute' opposition to Whitehall cuts.

Outspoken Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson called on the Core Cities group to launch its own attack over the issue after his council passed a motion criticising Smith Square's response to government funding decisions.
