Cornwall hikes allowances by 20%

Members of Cornwall Council have voted to increase their basic allowance by 20%.

Members of Cornwall Council have voted to increase their basic allowance by 20% – just weeks after the furore over its controversial outsourcing programme ended in a leadership coup.

The new deal will see councillors' annual remuneration rise to £14,600 from £12,128 from 2013. But the deal has already been criticised by some local residents.
