COSLA calls for local tax-raising powers

Town hall bosses and finance chiefs in Scotland have called for the right to set local taxes, as well as an end to the Scottish Government’s current council tax freeze.

Town hall bosses and finance chiefs in Scotland have called for the right to set local taxes, as well as an end to the Scottish Government's current council tax freeze.

In its official submission to Commission on Local Tax Reform, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) called for councils to be given the power to set ‘discretionary local taxes', but only with the backing of local communities.
