The cost of living crisis hits the helpers

A new survey by the District Councils' Network shows the average shortfall from unbudgeted pressures is around 3.3%. Councils are currently between a rock (the Treasury) and a hard place, says Michael Burton.

Much attention has been paid to the devastating impact of the cost of living crisis on households and local authorities, rightly, are focused on ways of alleviating the impact on their more vulnerable residents.

It is, however, becoming apparent that the very agencies tasked with helping their communities are themselves in need of support.
