Council chiefs' pay trails university bosses - research

Salaries for council chief executives are substantially lower than for university vice-chancellors, new Local Government Association (LGA) research has revealed.

Salaries for council chief executives are substantially lower than for university vice-chancellors, new Local Government Association (LGA) research has revealed.

The pay survey found the median salary for council chief executives in England and Wales was £132,177 at the end of last year while a comparable figure for vice-chancellors or their equivalent at English universities in 2017/18 was £255,000.
