Council chiefs unskilled in picking auditors

Nearly half of council chiefs have never hired auditors before and nor has anyone in their team, KPMG survey reveals.

Nearly half of council chiefs have never hired auditors before and nor has anyone in their team, a survey by consultants KPMG has revealed as the sector moves closer to the end of the Audit Commission.

The survey revealed that nearly nine out of ten respondents were satisfied with their current auditors, but they support plans to be able to appoint their own auditors – despite their lack of experience.
