Local government could shave £125m from benefits administration bills if less efficient councils cut their bills to average levels, Audit Commission reports.

Local government could save £125m from benefits administration if less efficient councils cut their bills to median levels across the sector, spending watchdogs have  reported.

An Audit Commission Value for Money Profile issued today shows despite increased demand for welfare from claimants, councils spent 3.1% less in real terms on administration than the previous year 2011/12.
