Council denies dumping 'illegal' schools evidence

A London council has rejected claims by a national newspaper that it destroyed evidence of more than 1,000 pupils being educated at illegal religious schools.

A London council has rejected claims by a national newspaper that it destroyed evidence of more than 1,000 pupils being educated at illegal religious schools.

The Independent claimed the Department for Education (DfE) had known of the problem since 2010 and pupils were sent to ultra-Orthodox Jewish faith schools where they received no education beyond studying religious texts.
