Council employment lowest in 18 years

Local government employment is at its lowest in 18 years while the number of Whitehall civil servants increases, according to the latest Office for National Statistics figures.

Local government employment is at its lowest in 18 years while the number of Whitehall civil servants increases, according to the latest Office for National Statistics figures.

Total UK public sector employment in March 2017 was 5.424m, down 7,000 on the previous quarter and 20,000 on the previous year.
