Council pension funds will seek to exert their position as shareholders in News Corporation to demand the media giant appoints an independent chairman.

The call from the Local Authority Pension Fund Forum (LAPFF) comes amid feverish political speculation sparked by evidence given today by current chairman Rupert Murdoch before the Leveson Inquiry into media ethics.
