Council HQ caught up in gas leak alert

Staff are returning to work at Westminster City Councils offices in the Strand after being evacuated due to a gas leak in central London.

Staff are returning to work at Westminster City Councils offices in the Strand after being evacuated due to a gas leak in central London.The gas leak, discovered at around 3am, led to the evacuation of a nightclub and a hotel. However, the 100m cordon also included the headquarters of Westminster City Council. The council has shifted to the Strand site following the closure of its Victoria Street tower block for refurbishment.

A spokesman for the council told The MJ: ‘Staff are expected to return to work shortly.'
