How can council leaders address the retrofit skills conundrum?

David Pierpoint explores how councils and social housing leaders can work to address their practical retrofit skills gap as they address their decarbonisation targets. 

Local authorities, social housing providers and their appointed contractors have an opportunity to drive retrofit of housing at scale with the financial backing of the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) and Home Upgrade Grant (HUG). But do they have the skilled workforces required to deliver retrofit for these programmes and further projects into the future?

For everyone involved, decarbonising the UK housing stock is a tough challenge, not only because of the longevity of funding, but also knowing how many people and skills are needed to deliver retrofit to the correct quality at scale.
