Thurrock BC has said it is ‘outraged' workers in its waste and recycling department have decided to continue to strike.

The workers have been on strike since 13 April over what the trade union Unite called a ‘brutal and callous attack' on the pay and conditions of workers.

Unite informed the council yesterday that the strike will continue until 18 June unless the dispute was resolved.

Cabinet member for waste services at Thurrock, Cllr Andrew Jefferies, said that he was ‘outraged' the union had decided to continue the strike and accused it of spreading ‘misinformation'.

Unite regional officer Michelle Cook said: ‘It's time for the chief executive Lyn Carpenter and the leader of the council Rob Gledhill to end the disruption and negotiate an end to this dispute.'
