The leader of Monmouthshire CC has warned ‘nobody will thank us for moving the deck chairs around' after the authority rejected calls to merge with Newport City Council.

Members of Monmouthshire CC met on 22 October to discuss their response to the Welsh Government's white paper on local government reform and following a three-hour debate agreed against submitting a bid to join forces with its neighbouring authority.
