Council staff at lowest level since 1999

The number of local government staff has continued its downward path with the total at its lowest since 1999.

The number of local government staff has continued its downward path with the total at its lowest since 1999.

There were 2,196,000 people working for local government in June 2016, a drop of 13,000 over the previous month or 0.3% and a fall of 72,000 or 3.2% over the previous year, according to the Office for National Statistics.
