Council tax collection rate reaches all time high

Council tax collections in England increased by £200m last year, with rates reaching an all time high, government figures indicated.

Council tax collections in England rose by £200m last year, with rates reaching an all time high, government figures suggest.

While local authorities collected £22.4bn in council tax over 2012/13, communities secretary Eric Pickles has urged told town halls to find greater savings by tackling the near £2.4bn in cumulative uncollected funds.
