Bedfordshire’s police and crime commissioner has insisted a referendum was ‘right to do’ after residents voted against a £4.5m increase in their council tax bills.

Bedfordshire's police and crime commissioner has insisted a referendum was ‘right to do' after residents voted against a £4.5m increase in their council tax bills.

Olly Martins called the UK's first council tax referendum on a 15.8% precept increase to fund an extra 135 police officers.
