Councils account for 8.8% of data breaches, says ICO

Local authorities were responsible for 8.8% of all personal data breaches reported to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO), according to its latest annual report.

Local authorities were responsible for 8.8% of all personal data breaches reported to the Information Commissioners Office (ICO), according to its latest annual report.

The industry which reported the highest number was healthcare, which made up 16.8% of the total in 2020/21 while education and childcare came second at 13.6%, reporting 1160 incidents over the last year.
