Councils 'best placed' to lead on transport

Local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) will assume a mere advisory role on the new bodies being set up to deliver major transport schemes.

Transport secretary, Justine Greening, stated in April that LEPs would have a ‘pivotal role' in plans to devolve decision-making and funding for major transport projects, such as the Mersey Gateway Bridge and Nottingham's tram system.
