Councils bid for school powers return

Councils must remain at the heart of school place planning, the Local Government Association (LGA) has insisted today.

Councils must remain at the heart of school place planning, the Local Government Association (LGA) has insisted today.

The LGA also called for powers to build schools themselves if academies and free schools refuse to expand, and for funding allocations to be provided in five-year blocks to allow for long-term financial planning.
