Councils' care cover shrinking, figures show

The number of people fully-covered by local authority care fell by 11% in the past two years, Labour Party figures suggest.

The number of elderly and disabled people fully-covered by local authority care fell by 11% in the past two years, figures compiled by the Labour Party have revealed.

According to the findings of the Freedom of Information based survey - which 121 councils out of 153 responsible for providing care services responded to – those authorities polled covered the care of around 7,000 fewer people in 2011/12 than they had in 2009/10.
