Councils need more clarity around Brexit

To provide effective help to local communities grappling with Brexit changes, councils will need Government to provide information, clarity and some recognition of the potential resource inherent in that task, says John O'Brien

In the monthly rollercoaster of whether a Brexit deal is more or less likely, the more recent signs have tilted towards a view that the Government may be able to at least reach the basis of a withdrawal agreement with the EU.

We certainly look like we are in for a period of national political drama over the next few months. Meanwhile, locally, it is the practical implications of Brexit as they impact on councils which continue to be uppermost in our minds.
