Councils must do better when it comes to housing

Local government must bear some of the blame for the housing crisis, says Heather Jameson - with sector experts pointing to a lack of progress in producing local plans, and a '30 year retreat from the streets'.

At The MJ Future Forum in Hertfordshire last week, Homes England chief executive Nick Walkley warned the housing crisis is set to get worse.

With a failure to build enough properties – and a crisis in the demographics of the building workforce – supply is set to get even more scarce. But local government must also shoulder some of the blame.
