Councils are coming out of the shadows

While we can do without friendly fire from a failing Government, councils do need to address issues of performance and leadership locally, says Paul Wheeler.

It was recently reported that the Government has cast doubt on the efficiency and value for money of the Local Government Association (LGA) sponsored improvement programmes and peer reviews.

Pause for a moment at the sheer chutzpah of a Government that can barely function in Parliament and in its brief tenure has tripled national debt, criticising any other organisation in terms of effectiveness.
