Can councils come to the community capital table?

Vinay Nair asks if local government can harness potential of social capital to deliver innovative community services.

At a recent roundtable discussion with an interesting group, including many charity leaders, the task set before us was daunting – to envision 'remaking the state'.

The conversation, perhaps unsurprisingly, soon turned to commissioning – the challenges; successes; and areas for improved partnership, collaboration and implementation.

The role of local authorities as commissioners is quite rightly the primary topic that charities and social enterprises focus on in such a context.
