The chief executive of the charity 4Children has called on councils to ‘redouble' their efforts to improve social mobility.

Speaking after the publication last week of a new report on mobility and child poverty by former health secretary, Alan Milburn , charity head Anne Longfield said councils and Whitehall departments should do more to help young people from poorer backgrounds obtain better qualifications and jobs.
