UK local government should explore the potential of green bonds to finance investment in sustainable energy, transportation and building solutions, a new report by a cross-party think-tank has urged.

UK local government should explore the potential of green bonds to finance investment in sustainable energy, transportation and building solutions, a new report by a cross-party think-tank has urged.

The Social Market Foundation (SMF) said UK councils should draw on the success of Swedish municipal green bonds, which have helped fund major carbon cutting projects that have eliminated 40,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emission since 2017.
