Councils failing on supplier pay

Half of local authorities in England are still failing to meet targets to pay suppliers within 10 days, despite recent improvements.

Half of local authorities in England are still failing to meet government-imposed targets to pay suppliers within 10 days, despite a small improvement over the past two years.

A study by the Forum of Private Business (FPB) suggests that just 51% of council invoices were settled within 10 days during the 2011/12 financial year, compared with 45% in 2009 when the FPB last conducted the survey.
