Councils could be 'forced' to invest in childcare

New report by Daycare Trust says lack of childcare places across local authority areas could increase investment in childcare.

A lack of childcare places across more than half of all local authority areas may force councils to increase investment in childcare provision, a new report by the Daycare Trust suggests.

In a study into Sure Start centres issued today (27 February), the charity also presents research showing soaring childcare costs are forcing a quarter of parents in severe poverty to abandon work and a third to turn down job offers – more than twice the proportion as better-off parents.
