Councils get £3.5m to boost patient rights

Councils were today informed of a £3.5m Department of Health funding boost to establish new local health bodies.

Councils were today informed of a £3.5m Department of Health (DH) funding boost to establish new local health bodies designed to champion the rights of patients.

Health secretary Andrew Lanslsey announced an extra £3.2m cash allocation for local authorities from next year to set up Local Healthwatch – bodies responsible for helping patients understand the choices available to them following health and social care reforms.
