Will councils have to give ground for extra funding?

Paul Marinko says there is hope within the sector that an improved sense of collaboration with government will bear fruit. 'But there is still a need for more money and local government may well be expected to give ground to achieve this.'

Just three weeks now until the eagerly anticipated Budget, but we know this anticipation is fuelled more by hope than expectation. The sector is painfully aware of its place on the political priority list.

Yet, local government is still turned to whenever there is a crisis. The latest of these is conflict in the Middle East, with councils expected to support those evacuating Lebanon.
