The Government's health reforms do not go far enough, council leaders have claimed. Responding to the health White Paper launched last week, the Local Government Association (LGA) backed the creation of the public health officer role but warned there were too many unanswered questions.

Councils will in future take charge of the tough social issues linked to poor health such as unemployment or poor housing.
