Councils must face data inspections, ICO chief demands

Information Commissioner urges local authorities to be subject to data protection audits.

Local authorities should be subject to compulsory data protection audits to ensure compliance with the law, the Information Commissioner has urged today.

Speaking at the 10th annual data protection compliance conference in London, Christopher Graham said the ICO is being prevented from inspecting organisations in sectors responsible for major breaches in handling personal information.
