Public hearings for the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, which is due to investigate the role of councils among other institutions, have begun.

Initial hearings relate to sexual abuse in British child migration programmes involving thousands of children cared for by various state institutions who were permanently settled across the British Empire.
