Councils could lose the power to veto nuclear waste being stored in their area, according to new government proposals.

The Government yesterday launched its new long-term plan to deal with radioactive waste, which followed a decision by Cumbria CC last year to block a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF) in its boundaries.
