Councils can work magic to welcome new migrants

Following a summer in which Channel crossings have risen steeply, and ‘stop the boats' is the Government slogan-du-jour, local authorities continue the practical and principled work of fostering villages, towns and cities of welcome for new migrants in the UK.

It is no doubt a challenging backdrop for integration work. Council budgets are likened to black holes. Meanwhile, local authorities are operating in an increasingly complex immigration landscape.
