The forced academisation of schools would end and councils would be empowered to take over failing academies under a Labour Government, the party has announced.

In a speech to the party conference on Monday, shadow education secretary Angela Rayner highlighted the plight of 124 ‘zombie' academies – schools from academy chains that have failed but are yet to be transferred to another.
