The efforts of emergency services have been praised as violence flared last night in cities around the country.

Council leaders have praised the work of the emergency services as violence flared last night in cities around the country.

Riots and looting occurred in Manchester, the West Midlands, Nottingham and Gloucester, while the large number of police deployed in London meant the capital was relatively quiet last night.
