Councils' new public health role spelled out

Councils will be appointing new directors of public health from April 2013, according to details issued by the Department of Health.

Councils will be appointing new directors of public health from April 2013, according to details issued by the Department of Health (DH) on the shape of proposed arrangements, subject to passage of the Health and Social Care Bill.

In a set of fact-sheets explaining how the sector would operate with DH agency Public Health England – which also goes live in 2013, an outline for managing the transition of director of public health posts to local government is set out.
