Councils reassured over UC impact

Local government policy experts help to secure stronger role for local authorities implementing the government's UC welfare programme.

Local government policy experts have claimed a victory for the sector in helping secure a stronger role for local authorities in implementing the government's flagship Universal Credit (UC) welfare programme.

The call follows the news councils are now set to partner with Jobcentre Plus centres and other local organisations – such as Citizens Advice Bureaux – to help vulnerable claimants cope with the transition to the universal benefit that will replace current income-related allowances, tax credits and housing benefit.
