The Centre for Public Scrutiny (CfPS) has voiced concerns about the voluntary nature of the Local Government Association's (LGA) peer review.

After the Audit Commission was abolished, the LGA stepped in offer councils a fully-funded review, which local authorities are encouraged to have every four to five years.
