Councils are seeking advice ahead of the introduction of regulations that will allow same-sex marriages and opposite-sex civil partnerships to take place in Northern Ireland.

Councils are seeking advice ahead of the introduction of regulations that will allow same-sex marriages and opposite-sex civil partnerships to take place in Northern Ireland.

Some in Northern Ireland have expressed concerns that registrars, who are council employees, could be forced to carry out same-sex ceremonies regardless of any religious or conscientious objections they may have.
