Councils to share risk of business rates appeals

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is looking to develop a ‘centralised risk-sharing system’ under which councils would share the burden of business rates appeals, local government minister Rishi Sunak has said.

The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government is looking to develop a ‘centralised risk-sharing system' under which councils would share the burden of business rates appeals, local government minister Rishi Sunak has said.

In last year's Spring Budget, councils were given access to £300m to ease business rate revaluation challenges, but Mr Sunak said the ministry was also looking at other ways to reduce the burden posed to individual councils.
