Councils sign up to social care precept

Most local authorities in England have taken advantage of the Government’s new social care precept, prompting the largest council tax rise since 2008.

Most local authorities in England have taken advantage of the Government's new social care precept, prompting the largest council tax rise since 2008.

Figures released today as part of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy's (CIPFA) annual council tax survey showed the additional 2% precept will raise £385.2m in 2016/17 out of a possible £394.3m.
