Councils have thrown their weight behind a Tory rebellion of more than 50 MPs who want to scrap mandatory housing targets for local authorities.

Councils have thrown their weight behind a Tory rebellion of more than 50 MPs who want to scrap mandatory housing targets for local authorities.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has backed a proposed new clause in the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill tabled by Conservative ex-minister Theresa Villiers, who wants housing targets to be advisory instead of mandatory.
