Councils urged to probe any allegations of child sex abuse

The Office of the Children’s Commissioner urges councils to investigate potential sexual exploitation of children in their area.

The Office of the Children's Commissioner has urged local authorities to investigate potential sexual exploitation of children in their area, after discovering more than 10,000 youngsters at ‘high risk'.

Following recent revelations about Jimmy Savile and child grooming gangs in areas such as Rochdale, the commissioner this week published evidence of ‘relentless' abuse of youngsters in gangs as part of a two-year study.
